Noriaki Inami, Representative Director and CEO of Astraporta Inc., presented research at the 2026 Annual Conference of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence, JSAI2026, on the theme: “If humanity saw Earth from space, would wars and conflicts decline?”

This presentation examined whether the perspective gained by seeing Earth from space — a view often described by astronauts and commercial spaceflight participants — could contribute to reducing human conflict and supporting world peace. The study used AI-based simulation to test this possibility.

Research Theme: If Humanity Saw Earth from Space, Would Conflict Decline?

When Earth is seen from space, national borders are not visible.
Our planet appears as one beautiful, fragile world, protected by a thin layer of atmosphere.

Astronauts have often described a powerful change in awareness after seeing Earth from space. Many report a deep realization that humanity shares one planet and that all people live together on the same Earth. This cognitive shift is known as the Overview Effect.

Based on this idea, the study explored the following question:

If humanity saw Earth from space, would wars, conflicts, and divisions decline?

This research reframes space development and space travel not only as exploration or adventure, but also as a potential contribution to peace for humanity.

Simulating Human Conflict with AI

In the real world, it is not possible to conduct experiments involving wars or conflicts between nations. Therefore, this study used AI agents that can hold different positions, values, and perspectives, and simulated conflict and negotiation in human society.

In the simulation, AI agents with different viewpoints discussed themes that often lead to conflict, such as resource allocation and policy decisions.

The study then gave the AI agents a “space perspective” similar to the view people may gain after seeing Earth from space.

This space perspective included ideas such as:

• From space, no national borders are visible on Earth
• Humanity lives together on the same planet
• Earth is an irreplaceable world protected by a thin atmosphere
• Even those in conflict are fellow members of the same planet
• The future of Earth as a whole is more important than winning or losing

The research compared how dialogue and conflict changed when this space perspective was introduced.

The Simulation Confirmed That a Space Perspective Can Reduce Human Conflict

The simulation showed that when the space perspective was shared, human conflict decreased compared with cases where the space perspective was not introduced.

In particular, when both sides shared the space perspective, the rate of dialogue breakdown was reduced by approximately half.

The simulation also showed a decrease in aggressive language, blaming expressions, and zero-sum thinking.

In other words, the AI simulation suggested that adopting a perspective similar to seeing Earth from space can reduce human conflict and make constructive dialogue more likely to continue.

Going to Space May Contribute to Peace

One of the most important implications of this research is that going to space may be more than a special personal experience.

Seeing Earth from space may help people move beyond the boundaries of “my country,” “the other country,” “enemy,” and “ally.” It may allow people to see one another as fellow human beings living together on the same planet.

Many conflicts begin when people divide the world into “us” and “them.”

However, when people adopt the perspective of seeing Earth from space, they may begin to see the entire planet as one shared community.

As a result, the purpose of dialogue may shift from:

“How can we defeat the other side?”

to:

“How can we protect the same Earth?”
“How can humanity coexist together?”

This study demonstrated that possibility through AI simulation.

A Proposal from Astraporta

Astraporta believes that in this era, going to space is not only a dream or an adventure. It can become a new pathway toward peace for humanity.

More people should have the opportunity to go to space and see Earth from the outside.

For those who cannot yet travel to space, the space perspective can also be shared through VR, education, AI, video, and media.

By spreading this perspective, humanity may be able to reimagine one another not as enemies, but as fellow members of the same planet.

Space development is not only about exploration or technology.
It can also become peace infrastructure — a way to transform human awareness, reduce conflict, and bring the world closer to peace.

Astraporta will continue working through space business, AI, education, and cultural archive projects to make space a stage in which everyone can participate, and to share the perspective of seeing Earth from space with society.
